MY STORY
Everybody has a story; here’s the n-Ergized (short) version of mine.
IT BEGAN at Transylvania University (no kidding – Google it) in a freshman English class where I learned that 90% of Americans disliked their jobs – 90%! That single statistic spawned a personal odyssey – a burning desire to find out what energizes people in their workplaces; what makes them really love their jobs? It covered 20 years, 38 countries (in Europe, North America, South America, Africa, and the Middle East), a doctorate in Human Resource Development at Vanderbilt University, and the pleasure of helping many thousands of people join the elite 10% who think that Monday mornings are better than Friday afternoons (ok, almost as good anyway).
HOW DO you get into the lucky 10%? It’s all about your n-Ergy – what fires your imagination and enlivens your life – physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually. It’s that simple. What gives you n-Ergy?
MY N-ERGY comes from the “Queen of Fun” (a.k.a., my wife Anna – beautiful, don’t you think?), from riffing on my Gretsch Nashville guitar, watching movies – especially dramas and documentaries (and with Anna, low lighting, and Anna…have I said that already?), training as a masters swimmer (my home pool is at the University of Tennessee), weight lifting, photography, being a self-described computer nerd, and sharing my n-Ergy every day in my work as the CEO (Chief n-Ergy Officer) of my own company, n-ACT Management Consulting.
I WAS 9 years old when we moved to Oak Ridge, Tennessee, “The Atomic City” so named for its role in the development of atom bomb and atomic energy. My dad helped start a new company there, ORTEC. It was a fun place to grow up with woods in our backyard; a tree house; many animals – cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, and squirrels; music; laughter; and going to the lake to water ski, fish, and camp out.
MY MOM and dad influenced me the most in my life. Their values of hard work, education, generosity, and helping others in need are the guiding lights in my personal and professional life.
MY LIFE is bubbling over with n-Ergy – at home, at play, and in my work.
